Job Description: Cleaner
As a Cleaner in a health environment, your role is critical for infection control. You are responsible for the daily cleaning and sanitization of wards, offices, and public areas. This position requires someone who is reliable, physically fit, and capable of following strict hygiene protocols to ensure a safe environment for both patients and medical staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Sanitization: Clean and disinfect floors, windows, walls, and furniture in assigned areas.
- Waste Management: Collect and dispose of general waste and ensure that medical waste is handled according to safety protocols.
- Restroom Maintenance: Clean and highly sanitize toilets, basins, and showers, ensuring that soap and paper towel dispensers are refilled.
- Equipment Care: Maintain cleaning materials and machinery in good working order and report any breakages or shortages of supplies.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) guidelines, including the use of protective clothing (PPE).
Requirements & Competencies
- Education: Minimum of ABET Level 2 (General Education and Training) or an equivalent qualification.
- Experience: No prior experience is required, though any previous cleaning experience is considered an added advantage.
- Skills: * Basic literacy and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team and follow instructions.
- Physical stamina for standing, walking, and lifting cleaning equipment.
- Attributes: Reliability, punctuality, and a commitment to high hygiene standards.
Salary & Benefits
- Annual Salary: R138,486 per annum.
- Benefits: As a permanent government employee, this usually includes a 13th cheque (bonus), medical aid subsidy, and a housing allowance (subject to qualifying criteria).
