Role Summary: The Operational & Financial Engine
In the Clicks corporate structure, the Assistant Store Manager acts as the operational heartbeat of the branch. While ensuring the front-line beauty and general merchandise teams are driving sales, you will own the store’s backend disciplines—managing labour models, tracking payroll time sheets, analyzing Profit & Loss (P&L) variables, and systematically combating stock shrinkage.
Key Objectives
1. Commercial & Financial Performance
- Sales Growth: Maximize daily turnover targets by leading localized cross-selling and up-selling initiatives floor-wide.
- Financial Management: Actively read, analyze, and implement corrections based on budgets, P&L statements, and financial ratios to protect store profit margins.
- Loyalty Conversion: Direct customer service strategies to capture new users, driving high Clicks ClubCard participation metrics.
2. Operational & Visual Standards
- Visual Merchandising (VM): Execute rigid national visual merchandising blue-prints, ensuring promotional ends, category drops, and pricing tickets align with the brand’s corporate image.
- Stock & Risk Management: Run inventory cycles, manage standard receiving protocols, and enforce shrinkage-control procedures to mitigate stock loss.
3. Workforce Planning & Administration
- Staff Scheduling: Maintain daily staff rosters, shift configurations, and leave requests in strict alignment with the Group’s corporate labour models to avoid over-stretching or over-budgeting.
- HR Admin Pipeline: Own store-level administration, ensuring weekly time-and-attendance records, payroll hours, and employee files are complete and sent to corporate HR on time.
- Interim Leadership: Take full accountability for leading, coaching, and supervising the entire store team in the absence of the Store Manager.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Essential: Grade 12 / Matric with a minimum of 50% for Mathematics and 50% for English.
- Essential (For External Applicants): A relevant Retail, Commercial, or Business Management qualification.
- Desirable: A full University Degree in Business or Retail Management.
Experience & Skills
- Tenure: Minimum 1 year of active experience as an Assistant Store Manager in an FMCG/Retail operations environment OR successful completion of the internal Clicks Trainee Store Management Programme.
- Financial Acumen: Direct, practical experience working with corporate store budgets, expense controls, and financial ratios.
- Legislative Knowledge: Clear understanding of South African labour legislation, basic Industrial Relations (IR) practices, and competency-based interviewing techniques.
- Tech Literacy: Strong computer skills for analyzing digital dashboards, stock reporting systems, and corporate HR platforms.
