Position Purpose
The core of this role is to drive the “exceptional customer shopping experience.” You are not just a cashier; you are a floor assistant responsible for the entire lifecycle of the product—from unpacking and tagging to the final sale at the till.
Key Responsibilities
- Cashier & Financial Duties:
- Process cash, credit card, and Lay-By payments.
- Handle customer refunds and perform accurate till balancing.
- Report any financial discrepancies immediately to supervisors.
- Merchandising & Sales Floor:
- Ensure all stock is correctly priced and displays are visually appealing.
- Maintain “Ready for Business” standards through constant housekeeping.
- Stay updated on current promotions to better assist customers.
- Risk Management:
- Strictly follow company tagging policies to prevent loss.
- Monitor the floor for shoplifting or fraudulent behavior.
- Participate in regular stock takes to ensure inventory accuracy.
Requirements & Skills
- Communication: Must be fluent in English (additional languages are a plus for the Gauteng region).
- Attitude: High energy levels, tenacious, and a self-motivated approach to work.
- Experience: While previous retail experience is an advantage, Ackermans prioritizes a target-driven mindset.
- Values: You must be willing to represent the Ackermans values in every interaction.
Candidate Qualities for Success
- High Energy: This is a dynamic environment; you need to be comfortable being on your feet and moving between the till and the shelves.
- Accuracy: Handling payments and Lay-Bys requires a high level of attention to detail to avoid “shorts and overs.”
- Customer-Centric: You should be proactive in helping shoppers find specific items rather than waiting for them to ask.
