Role Summary: The Operational Custodian
As the Store Manager, your primary mandate is to translate Ackermans’ national operations strategy into daily floor success. You are the ultimate custodian of the brand in your region, responsible for optimizing sales, containing running costs, and driving a customer-first culture through hands-on staff leadership.
Key Responsibilities & Competencies
1. Commercial Strategy & Sales Optimization
- Turnover Performance: Drive daily and weekly sales targets by ensuring high visual standards and exceptional customer service delivery.
- Cost & Expenditure Control: Manage store-level expenses tightly (utilities, overtime, consumables) to protect profit margins.
- Merchandise Management: Ensure optimal stock levels, oversee seasonal product rollouts, and execute price adjustments or markdowns accurately.
2. Risk Management & Floor Standards
- Stock Control: Maintain rigorous stock loss (shrinkage) prevention protocols through regular counts and secure receiving/floor processes.
- Store Integrity: Keep the store running at peak corporate compliance standards, ensuring an immaculate, well-ticketed, and inviting shopping environment.
3. Team Leadership & Development Orientation

Minimum Requirements
- Education: Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent qualification. Further tertiary qualifications in Retail, Business Management, or Commerce are highly advantageous.
- Experience: Minimum two (2) years of retail experience, which must include at least one (1) year in a supervisory or management position (e.g., Assistant Manager, Floor Supervisor, or 2IC).
- Languages: Effective written and verbal communication in English is mandatory. Competence in a second official language (such as Sesotho, which is widely spoken in Phuthaditjhaba) is a distinct advantage.
