Preparing for an interview is really important. Retail employers want people who’re friendly, reliable and focused on helping customers.
Here are some common retail interview questions in South Africa and how to answer them.
1. Tell Us About Yourself
Keep your answer short and to the point.
Do not go on and on about yourself.
Example:
I just finished school. I am looking for a job in retail where I can learn and gain experience. I like working with people. I am happy to learn new things.
2. Why Do You Want to Work in Retail?
When they ask you this they want to know that you like working with people and helping them.
They also want to know that you are comfortable working in a team and that you want to grow and learn in the business.
3. How Would You Handle a Customer?
If someone is being really difficult I would stay calm. Listen to what they have to say.
Then I would try to fix the problem in an polite way.
If I need help I would ask my supervisor to step in.
4. Are You Willing to Work Weekends and Holidays?
Sometimes you have to work on weekends and holidays when you’re in retail.
So be honest about what you can. Cannot do, but also be flexible if you can.
5. What Are Your Strengths?
When they ask you this talk about things like how you communicate with people how you work in a team and how you are always on time.
Also tell them that you have an attitude and that you are happy to be there.
Some tips for the interview:
* Dress and look nice
